Q:Solving Words- I learn the meaning of new words while reading and add them to my speaking and writing vocabulary. Q:Synthesizing- As I read both fiction and nonfiction texts about different cultures, time, and places, I am learning new things. Q:Synthesizing- My perspective about how things should be is growing as I learn about other cultures, times, and places. Q:Inferring- I can explain changes in characters over time and talk about possible reasons for the change Q:Inferring- I can think about how another person may interpret a character’s motives or actions other than my own. Q:Analyzing- I recognize the use of figurative or descriptive language (even irony) and talk about how it makes the text more interesting. Q:Analyzing- I can talk about the author’s craft; style, language, perspective, themes) (Describe author’s craft – his/her style, language, perspective(s), theme(s)). Q:Critiquing- I can tell you what types of texts I prefer to read and give specific reasons why I like it.
