Technology Tools to Support Formative Assessment
Poll Daddy - Free tool to create surveys and polls that shows immediate results
Testmoz - Create graded online tests
Flubaroo - An assessment tool that allows teachers to create an assessment and have it graded as well, using Google Drive. This tutorial shows how.
Socrative - Student response system for on the spot assessment
Poll Everywhere - Students use their cell phone or a computer to respond to questions that allow for immediate response results
Padlet - A collaborative wall of responses, ideas, and understandings
Kahoot - A fun game-style web-based assessment tool where questions are created and students access with a class code and answer on a cell phone or computer.
Mastery Assess - Teachers can easily track student mastery of standards with Mastery Assess's features. As a collaborative tool, Mastery Assess allows teachers to create and share common assessments and have them graded by the app. This data can then be used to create differentiated groups to better guide instruction Resources that align to standards and support individual learners can be saved in a student playlist.
Zaption - A tool that allows you to embed questions within a video to guide students throughout the viewing and to monitor their understanding.
Today's Meet - A backchannel tool that allows you to post questions in a "room" and have students respond with answers, questions, and dialogue with other students, along with other great uses. Great for monitoring understanding throughout a lesson.
Plickers - Create a page for each student and Plicker will code in students names and answers on printable cards for them to hold up when you ask verbal questions. When you use the Plicker app on your smartphone, to view the class through your camera, each student name will appear and whether they got the answer correct or incorrect. Great for a classroom that is not one-to-one.
QuickKey - A mobile scanning app for scoring multiple choice questions.
Office Mix - An add-on to Microsoft PowerPoint, Office Mix allows teachers to turn PowerPoints in to online lessons and to embed formative check points throughout the instruction to check for understanding an add interactivity.
EdPuzzle - A collection of videos from all sources that allow for teachers to add to and put their own spin on it to accommodate for their own learners.
Seesaw - Web-based student driven digital portfolios, formative assessment, and parent communication.

Something to Consider......
When using these engaging formative assessment tools, we need to also be aware of the questioning techniques we are using. Often typical true/false and multiple choice types of questions are constructed from the perspective of the teacher or publishing company....and not from the student and his/her true conceptual understanding. This assessment resource provides a list of a variety of questioning techniques, the pros and cons of each, and tips for writing them.

Conferring for Formative Data
Working one on one with students through reading and writing conferences is the most authentic way to assess student progress for formative assessment to drive further instruction.
Strategy groups are formed based on similar needs of groups of students in order to reteach or clarify.
(Some resources are tech-based and others aren't.)
Reading Conference Form - A great from that helps students and teachers to create reading goals together. It also assists teachers with fiction and non-fiction conferencing prompts and what answers to listen for in order to assist in conferring effectively when the teachers themselves haven't read the book.
Characteristics of Texts and Reading Behaviors - Here is a great link to text descriptions for each F&P level as well as descriptions of reading behaviors at each level. Using this information will help in choosing guided reading and independent text selections. It will also aid in monitoring student progress when used checklist to help as part of the process to identify when students should move up in reading levels and to formatively assess what reading behaviors need to be addressed instructionally.

The Reading and Writing Project - A collection of running records at each level to assess student reading progress, created by Teachers College.
Book Wizard - Web-based database of leveled book titles. The app version allows you to scan the book's bar code to search.
Reading Level Conversion Chart - Convert DRA, Lexile, and Guided Reading levels.
Student Reading Strategy Log - A log for students to use at home or school with their independent books to guided them to utilize their reading strategies with provided thinking stems.
Miscue Analysis - Running records not only tell a child's reading level, but also allow for a formative assessment of miscue analysis in order to determine the types of errors students make while reading. Instruction can then be tailored to focus in on instruction to remediate those identified.

1) Copy/Paste the menus individually into Notepad and save each file as a "Plain Text File."
2) Open each menu in Confer.
3) Import as "quick text."
4)Choose subject.
